THE BASICS TO PROVIDE THE ULTIMATE ENJOYMENT
YOUR Sonnenburg
Deeply rooted in the Kleinwalsertal and living at an altitude of 1,100 metres in the Schwende district, it is the mountains and the unspoilt natural environment that inspires us all on a daily basis. You can taste it in our great local cuisine, and you can feel it too: in the welcoming ambience, the warm atmosphere and the open, personal touch. Now run by the third generation of the same family, the Sonnenburg is a place that moves and touches.
TRUE HOSPITALITY
OUR POLICY
Warm. Reliable. Friendly. The Genuss- & Aktivhotel Sonnenburg is now being family-run by the third generation. A lot has changed to develop from an inn to a 4-star hotel. But it has retained its familiar charm, and we are as keen as ever to share this lovely place, which occupies such an important spot in our hearts, with our guests.
The Sonnenburg is a place that touches your heart. The hotel combines modern design with typical Austrian hospitality. It is this combination which makes the Genuss- & Aktivhotel Sonnenburg exceptional, a place to gather. We would like to invite you to discover the Sonnenburg, and everything about it which makes it so special, for yourself.
Architecture and design
The hotel’s architecture is the epitome of modern lightness, but without losing sight of a sense of tradition. The new meets the old, and tradition inspires its contemporary design. In this way, the modern Walser lifestyle rubs shoulders comfortably with a traditional sense of Alpine conviviality.
The facade of the Sonnenburg is defined by clear lines, naturally aged shingles and larchwood balconies. On the third floor, a glass cube - the Brüüge 1,085 - appears to float between the buildings. From here, amazing views are guaranteed. Inside the building, the use of natural materials such as local timber and stone provide a seamless connection between the traditional and the modern. Large windows, rooms flooded with natural light and varied tones of colour lend the entire house a feeling of lightness and well-being.
Our new architectural highlight is the rooftop infinity pool, overlooking the mountains of the Kleinwalsertal.
The Sonnenburg
Over 300 years old, the main part of the Sonnenburg not only oozes character and atmosphere, but also has a story to tell. What began as a simple “tavern with rooms” and developed into a “comfortable inn” finally became a 4-star “leisure & sports hotel” within just three generations. It’s an inspiring history which still makes us proud today.
